Students News

Imagine visiting a home in Guatemala or bartering for food in Uganda without ever leaving the country. That’s exactly what 37 ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø students had the opportunity to experience at the simulated rural Global Village and Urban slum at the campus of Southern Institute for Appropriate Technology (SIFAT) in Lineville, Alabama in September.

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø student Caroline McKinley.

Though only a freshman, Caroline McKinley’s adoration of the arts is already blossoming at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. Last fall, she worked behind the scenes with the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Theatre and performed as a member of the marching band’s color guard.

Two by two, students from the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø climbed along the eastern side of the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the hilly, 83-year-old Alabama River crossing that’s embedded in the nation’s civil rights story.
ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø student Carlyn Rawls, who is studying in France.

By the time she enrolled at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Carlyn Rawls was already captivated by the notion of studying abroad. Reared in Millbrook just north of the state Capitol, she soon learned options were bountiful for curious students without fear of moving to the globe’s opposite side. It’s an experience she sought.
